The AHA and ACC have released new hypertension (high blood pressure) guidelines for the first time since 2003. Under the new thresholds, almost 50% of the US now has hypertension.

The new guidelines define Stage 1 hypertension as a patient having systolic blood pressure between 130-139 or diastolic blood pressure between 80-89.
